AIT All Four Still Life

A new series of history books for children

Adventures in Time

The first four books in my new history series for children, Adventures in Time, are out now, with two more to follow in 2022.

Published by Penguin, Adventures in Time are designed to bring the past alive for today's children, aimed at young readers who enjoy Harry Potter, Matilda, Star Wars and The Hobbit.

They're written to be fun and exciting, with colourful characters and thrilling cliffhangers, and are based firmly on historical facts. The Financial Times calls them "spectacular", the Telegraph "superb", the Sunday Times "compelling and vivid".

The first four books explore the high drama of the Second World War, the silken intrigues of Henry VIII's England, the heroism and tragedy of the First World War and the breathtaking adventures of Alexander the Great.

Books five and six, on Cleopatra and the Vikings, will be published in July and November 2022.

I present the podcast The Rest is History with my fellow historian Tom Holland. You can listen to it on Apple, on Spotify and on Acast.

Welcome to Dominic Sandbrook's website

I am the author of eight books of modern history, as well as the Adventures in Time children's series.

My most recent book is Who Dares Wins, the fifth in my series on Britain since the Second World War. It tells the story of the first Thatcher administration in the early 1980s.

The Times called it "absolutely breathtaking", with a "Thucydidean coolness, balance and wisdom". It was chosen as a Book of the Year in the Daily Mail, The Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Mail on Sunday, the London Evening Standard, Prospect and BBC History Magazine.

I am a regular writer for the Daily Mail and the Sunday Times, and have written and presented many documentaries for BBC Two and BBC Radio 4.

Before becoming a freelance writer, I used to be a university history lecturer. I am now a Visiting Professor at King's College London.
